Construction Gloves | Impact Protection

Impact gloves for the construction industry

The Construction Industry is one of the biggest users of impact protection work gloves. Heavy objects are an obvious hazard and although safety regulations are stringent and personnel are properly trained; there is always risk of hand injury.

You use your hands to reach out, grasp, lift and sometimes protect your body; they’re the first line of defence against the outside world. That means they’re vulnerable, especially in high-risk environments with large, heavy and abrasive objects. Demolition sites are particularly hazardous with the threat of falling masonry is ever-present. Hands damaged by impact or crush may not always recover fully so appropriate protection is vital!

Armoury for back of hand

MCR Safety’s impact protection gloves have robust armour to shield the back of your hand. It’s made from TPR (Thermo Plastic Rubber), an ideal material for impact protection because it’s incredibly tough yet also surprisingly supple. It’s extremely resistant to every-day wear and tear and when applied to the back of the glove, it will flex with your hand without restricting movement or slowing down your pace of work.

EN388 Impact Test

All gloves designed for any form of protection must comply to EN388 which is a globally recognised standard. Gloves are tested for resistance to abrasion, cut (both with a circular and linear blade), tear and puncture. You will see the EN388 score on the back of every work safety glove.

Impact gloves are tested over and above this standard. They undergo an additional test for impact that is only carried out when gloves are specifically intended for this type of protection.

The hand is one of the most delicate pieces of anatomical engineering in the body. Beneath the skin lies a complex framework of bones, muscles, nerves and tendons. The knuckles are a particularly vulnerable structure so the impact test is designed to measure protection focusing on this area.

A universally recognised standard weight is dropped onto the back of the glove and the impact is measured by the degree of force in Newtons. If the glove can withstand the force at this level it will pass, if it cannot, it will fail.

It’s a simple pass or fail test and the result is indicated by a sixth character in the EN388 score. You will see the letter ‘P’ if the glove has passed or you may occasionally see the letter ‘X’ if for some reason the glove has not been tested. Impact gloves that fail will not appear on the market so you won’t see the letter ‘F’ represented.

Minimise your risk with our IP1052 range of impact work gloves

MCR Safety’s impact protection gloves have robust armour to shield the back of your hand alongside other useful and properties in the yarn, coating and reinforcements.

Our super tough and flexible TPR plating is applied to the back of the hand, fingers and thumb in panels like the scales of a crocodile. This is so it can flex with the hand through your full range of motion. It’s light-weight and will not inhibit speed or hand agility.

This 13-gauge shell construction is fine so the glove can deliver a soft and comfortable fit. The ergonomic design also adds dexterity and flexibility.

It ranks high in the EN388 cut test achieving level ‘D’ and for yet further protection, it has a reinforced thumb-crotch.

IP1052NS | Extremely abrasive, great dexterity, touchscreen fingertips and TPR

Nitrile sandy, as the name implies, gives the coating a fine sandy texture that’s great for powerful grip. The coating extends over the palm and the inner sides of the fingers and thumb. It’s durable, flexible and tactile, even allowing for touch-screen fingertips to operate tech. Yes, that’s right, no need to remove the glove to use equipment, smart phones or tablets.

IP1052NF | Fully coating nitrile foam with TPR back of hand
